El Dorado-everyone can be involved.
Do you have a child who loves film and writing? We have an exciting 7 week programme for you to follow together. This originally started live online in April but is now available in full and will give super writing and filming opportunities for the whole of this half term. If your child is less enthusiastic about writing he/she can still create their adventure-an adult can write down what they want to say for them or they can discuss their ideas verbally and there is the filming part too.
The links will take you to the book to download, the lessons and resources-which are attractively presented. #LitFilmFestClassrooms_ How to Write and Film An Adventure – El Dorado (2)
PLEASE send your writing and films to the class email address-we can’t wait to see them!! 🏆🖊
English has many parts to it, not all of them involve writing. Please see the suggestions for providing learning opportunities that cover the range of English skills we work on in school. It is not a list of things you must do but just an idea of the range of skills and possible activities-you can mix and match. Go with your child’s interests and encourage him/her to have a go. Some parts of English can be a tricky but can be practical and fun too. How to give your child English learning opportunities at home

As well as completting the quizes in your Reading Planet books-talking about what we are reading is a great way of developing our comprehension skills but sometimes we don’t know what to talk about. So, here are some book marks with tips for you.
Reading-reading can take us away into different times, places, feelings and ideas. Remember to send in your reading in unusual places photos 😎
Reading everyday is key to feeling good and learning.
What should we be reading? Things that interest, entertain and inform us. Books, magazines, appropriate websites, recipes, instructions, rules for games, poems, stories, facts…Everything!
Your child has been allocated super ebooks through Reading Planet. The books are at an appropriate level and are modern and interesting. Each book has quiz questions and teachers can see how pupils are progressing. Teachers will update pupils’ book lists as pupils complete books and their quizzes.
Spelling Shed-spelling activities have been set at an appropriate level for your child and will be checked and updated weekly/as needed. It is very important that Y5 children are as confident and familiar as they can be with the challenging KS2 spellings before they enter Y6. So, it will be most helpful for your child to have spelling practise time each day.
The children also know a variety of fun games and strategies that we use in school to learn spellings: pyramid writing, back writing, deliberate mistakes, rainbow writing, missing consonants or vowels, ‘I’m thinking of a word that means…’
Maths-work is set via MyMaths at a level appropriate to your child.
Times tables and related divisions practise-there are many free apps and online games for this. For example ‘Hit the Button’
Verbal games and asking children to work out multiplications relating to whatever you are doing is also fun and helps the memory.
• We use the White Rose Maths in school -if you would like to use the programme below please check which year group is appropriate for your child-not everyone does Y5 work in class.
