Our design and technology work has included creating 3D Christmas cards using origami skills and baking our own mini Christmas cakes. It has been so much fun!
We began by evaluating a variety of Christmas cakes-not everyone liked the taste.
We learned how to use compasses to create a circle base for the cake.
Then we followed a recipe and baked our cakes.
We gave our cakes traditional decoration with marzipan and icing and a festive ribbon and wrapping. We are very proud of our work and wrote evaluations of our products.
After learning about the lives of the Anglo Saxons in history we practised clay skills and used tools to help us recreate Anglo Saxon broaches in Art.
During the visit to the mosque the Imam explained about the building and living daily life as a Muslim. The children were interested to learn that every mosque faces towards Mekkah so everyone praying is facing the same way. The children learned more about the five pillars of Islam and practised some prayer positions. The Imam at the mosque was particularly impressed with the questions the children asked.
The children were praised for their behaviour and manners. Well done everyone.
“I would definitiely recommend visiting York Mosque it is a fabulous experience.”
Our visit to The Web gave the children opportunities to develop resilience by managing risk, using appropriate safety equipment and challenging themselves.
“Before we went I was nervous…”
The children rose to the challenge of high rope activities, wearing a harness for safety and negotiating obstacles suspended above the ground. It was very challenging and lots of encouragement was given. Everyone chose their own level of challenge and the smiles of achievement were great to see. Some even had an extra turn.
“I would recommend The Web Adventure Park because it helps you believe in your-self and boosts your self-confidence up and helps you face your fears.”
Thank you to our visitors who attended Open Morning today. We enjoyed working with you to learn about biomes around the world. We created our own maps showing the different biomes and discussed why they differ depending on where on the globe they are.
COOKING AND EATING HEALTHY FOODS
Today we learned more about healthy choices. We cooked chilli and curry using fresh ingredients, doing all the chopping and mixing ourselves. These are some of our thoughts.
“Today was amazing, the food really made me think about healthy choices. The healthy food actually tastes better than unhealthy.”
“I did not like healthy food but now I want the recipe.”
“If you don’t think you like something, try it beacause you never know…”
Three Hagges Wood-The Wood Meadow.
As part of our science learning we visited a conservation area. Everyone had a great morning despite the changing weather. We explored the site and were lucky enough to see a variety of creatures and plants-unfortunately the creatures were faster than our photographers. It was exciting to see a grass snake, a black toad, crickets, a vole, a cabbage white butterfly, slugs, bees, woodlice and ants-to name a few. In class we will be writing fact-files, adverts for the conservation area and diagrams of life cycles of living things.
