School Library
Now that the building work has been completed we are pleased to be able to reopen the school library for lending on Monday 14th October. This year we would like to see more children than ever using the library. All children have a library number that is used to lend books and we have a wide range of texts to suit all interests. Children will be given opportunities during the school day to visit the library. Parents of children in Mercury, Venus and Earth are welcome to accompany their children after school on Mondays and Tuesdays. Returned books can be brought back at anytime and left in the returns box.
As part of our relaunch we will be having a school competition to give our library a new name and we will also be recruiting librarians from year 4 and 5 to assist Mr Dyer with the running and future planning of this great school resource. As we are updating stock within the library and across classes, we are hoping to have a book sale of books that are surplus to the school but would be looking for a good home. Further information to follow.
Birthday Book
In addition to improving the school library this year, we also are keen to develop classroom reading areas. This will include developing book stock and encouraging the children to enjoy books by different authors. One of the teachers had the excellent idea of asking the children to donate a book to their classroom library on their birthday instead of bringing sweets. This could be a ‘pre-loved’ book from home or a new book. Obviously this is not compulsory but we thought it would be a lovely way to raise the profile of reading and celebrate your child’s birthday by enjoying this book with the whole class.
