At Barlby Bridge CP we take part in lots of physical activity, both as part of our curriculum and as extra curricular activity. Please see the PE section of the website for details of what we do on a daily basis and the competitions we have been involved in.
What is the Sports Premium?
The government has provided funding of £150 million per annum since 2013/14 to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and goes directly to schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all children. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
At Barlby Bridge, all of our children participate in 2 hours PE lessons per week. In addition to this they also participate in outdoor, active Forest School sessions for half a day per week for one half term. Swimming lessons take place too; these are in addition to the 2 hours PE for children in Y3, 4 and 5. We offer a great many lunchtime and after school sports clubs. We use the PE funding to fund these clubs so that children can join free of charge. The type of club changes each term but we have run multi skills, dance, Healthy Lifestyles, football and netball to name a few.
Playtimes and lunchtimes are as active as possible. We use Play Leaders to organise games and have a wide selection of equipment for children to use; balls, skipping ropes, bats, cricket sets, hoola hoops, beanbags etc.
In Summer 2019, Barlby Bridge CP School was successfully awarded the School Games Award at GOLD level. This is a nationally recognised award.
