School Wraparound Care

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to you to make you aware that due to the current financial situation affecting Barlby Bridge and many other schools in North Yorkshire, the Governors are considering cost savings in many areas of the school budget. The wraparound care has been running now for just over at year at Barlby Bridge and in that time, we have been delighted by the growth of the club, support from parents and positive feedback we have received. It is with regret therefore that I have to inform parents we are in a challenging position in terms of being able to maintain the club in its current form. The before school breakfast club and after school session till 4.30pm is well attended and the monies from parents almost covers the cost of food and staffing. However, the 4.30- 5.30 session has significantly less numbers and whilst we have regular children attending, there is sometimes only one child in a club being supervised by two staff members. The Governors and I have made the decision that due to the budgetary position, this club session cannot continue to run in a negative position.

I am therefore appealing to parents to consider taking a place in one of the later sessions from 3.10-5.30pm, or to parents who currently use the club until 4.30pm to consider extending this to a later session for one evening per week. To make the club viable we need a minimum of three children per evening attending the sessions. If we do not have greater uptake of places by February half term, we will have to give notice to our parents currently using these sessions and finish the club each night at 4.30pm. An alternative may be offering a later session on certain evenings when uptake of places is more positive.

I will write to you next term to inform you of progress made and the schools position before the half term. Hopefully if we can increase uptake in the New Year it may be possible to maintain the hours currently offered. Thank you to all of the parents who use and support the wraparound care at Barlby Bridge.

Kind Regards

Claire Hughes
