Rockets - Welcome to Nursery

The children in Rockets have settled back into nursery after their half term break. We also welcomed two new children into our class; the children have been really friendly and have showed each other the different areas within the classroom.

Our topic for this term is life cycles. We are going to be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and frog and will be watching this lifecycle with some real caterpillars and frog spawn. We are also going to be looking at a human life cycle and how we change as we grow.

The children are going to be looking at growing, we are going to be planting our own flowers and vegetables and watching them grow.

The children are going to continue learning about 2D shapes and recognising numbers. We are also going to be looking at capacity in the water trays both inside and outside, predicting how many cups it will take to fill a container and using capacity language (full, half full, half empty and empty). We are going to be growing runner beans and the children will be measuring these and keeping track of how much they grow.

Literacy / Phonics

The children take part in daily phonics activities, this term the children will be recapping over musical instruments and body percussion making and copying different rhythms. We are also going to start looking at rhyming words.

We have PE on a Tuesday and Friday, this term we are going to continue working on throwing and catching and we will be starting to focus on gymnastics using balancing equipment and apparatus. We will be looking at safety when getting on and using the apparatus and how to jump off and land safely.

We have a messy table available every day with different textures for the children to explore and get creative and messy. The children will be doing lots of paintings and collage this term linked with our life cycles and growing topic.

We have a special visit from Farmer Carl this term; he is going to be recapping over our farm topic looking at the animals which live on the farm. He is also bringing some live animals for the children to feed and stroke.

Lots of you have been replying to the 2Buildaprofile email which is great. It is lovely to see what the children have been doing at home.

Thank you for your continued support, as always please come and see me if you have a concerns about your child and to share their achievements.
