Welcome to Class Neptune!

A very warm welcome back to school for our summer term.

The spring term has passed very quickly! We hope you had an enjoyable Easter break. We greatly enjoyed looking at the works of Tolkien (The Hobbit) and Rowling (Harry Potter) as part of our work on locations as well as reflecting on our residential visit to Robin Wood. The children have worked incredibly hard preparing for the SATs tests that will take place in May. However the work doesn’t stop there! This term is the last for year 6 at Barlby Bridge School and we aim to make it the best.

This term our school theme is Time Travellers and we will be covering this in a variety of ways. Please see the curriculum overview for more information. We will also be continuing with our writing skills looking at extended narratives and developing as writers. In Science we will be looking at evolution and inheritance and in Maths we will be applying our calculation and reasoning skills to a range of problem solving.

At Barlby Bridge we value the importance of reading and developing those essential life skills that becoming a better reader brings. Children bring reading books home every night and these should be brought back into school the following day. On Fridays, Reading Records are collected in. Even if your child reads silently and independently or reads a book other than their home reader, please sign the reading record. It is really helpful for us to see how often they are practising their reading and what texts they are enjoying.

Homework is given out each week to allow children to further develop the learning that they have done in school and there will be some half termly projects across the whole school to look out for. Spellings will be given out for the week on Friday and will be tested weekly. If you are looking to explore and practise the KS2 curriculum further then a great website to visit is

It is also important to encourage children to continue practising basic maths skills, like times tables and quick real life calculations. Number Gym (User Name: barlbyb Password: y085aa the children have their unique login in their planners) and the Sumdog (own passwords) website can make learning these skills more fun! There is also the Oxford Owl website where the children can read on-line books free of charge. The children should have access to all of the pass words they need.

Please send water bottles into school with your child. These should be sports top bottles (to avoid spillages.)

As Year 6 are in their last term with us, there will be a number of different transition events for Secondary Schools as well as special assemblies toward the later stages of the term. Not to mention the leavers performance! Keep checking the newsletters for more specific information, dates and times.

Thank you for your support.
