 Welcome to Class Jupiter

Dear Parent,

Spring term has flown by – we loved reading Kensuke’s Kingdom and were often on the edge of our seats to find out the next part of the story! This term we are looking forward to investigating Roman life and will be enjoying the adventures of the ‘Time Traveling Cat’ to give us yet more insight! (This book is part of a series!)

During the final weeks of the Summer term, I will begin my maternity leave. Mrs Dutton is looking forward to teaching class Jupiter in my absence.

Here is an update/reminder of some of the routines. Reading books are sent home every night and should be brought back into school the following day. This will give you the chance to enjoy listening to your child read. Reading Records are handed in on Fridays to encourage children to read to an adult at least 3/5 times a week. Each time they read it will be marked off so that they can aim for a prize!

P.E will take place on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please remember that children with pierced ears should remove earrings for P.E days, unless they can remove them themselves prior to the lesson. There will be lots to look forward to with sports day later in the term!

Some homework will be given on a weekly basis and some as a half-termly project. Times tables should be practised regularly – use times table trainer, Hit the Button or SUMDOG websites to encourage your child to practise – they are fun websites that the children enjoy using at school.

PARENTS … If you have any time and expertise to share with the class we would really appreciate your help. Perhaps you would like to listen to readers or join art lessons. Please let me know if you are available and keen to help! Thanks.

I hope that this information is of use to you.

Thank you, for your continuing support.

Yours faithfully

Mrs Hockley (Class Jupiter teacher.)

Our topic this term is Time Travel. Here is an overview

We will be looking at measure, shape and data handling. We will use the skills we have worked on throughout the year to support us.

In English we will be writing Roman reports and instructions on how to make a Roman Catapult. Story writing and poetry will be inspired by ‘The Time Travelling Cat.’

In Science, we are finding out about electricity and how it works. We will be creating circuits and using scientific symbols to represent our designs.

We will be researching the lives of the Romans. How they lived, how they invaded and how we can still see the effects of their empire today.

In Geography we will be investigating the countries that were invaded by the Romans and how they created names of many different counties in the UK.

We will be finding out all out about communication using ICT. We will be creating a blog and using email.

We will be looking at stereotypes and different emotional issues. We will try to understand other people’s beliefs and opinions.

We will investigate the religion of Judaism.

In P.E we will be learning competitive games. We will also soon be practising for sports day!!

In art we will be looking at Roman art. We will investigate mosaics and we will be learning to create portraits that show expression.

In D.T we will create Roman catapults. We will use these to fire marshmallows! Who will be able to project theirs the furthest?

We will learn to sing a song and add some accompaniment with the recorders.
